Introducing The Wandle Piscators

Founded in 2004, The Wandle Piscator Club was formally constituted on 21st October 2005 – the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar and the death of Admiral Nelson, reputedly one of the Wandle’s most famous fishermen (though there’s still some debate about how much he actually fished the river!)

Today, the Club is committed to helping the historic River Wandle, the setting for this year’s UK River Summit & Festival, come back to life after centuries of pollution and abuse, and the famous writer Peter Lapsley has described this urban chalkstream’s recovery as ‘a modern miracle‘.

We are delighted that The Wandle Piscators will be leading an afternoon activity at this year’s event, sharing their local river knowledge and leading a variety of demonstrations. Come and “Meet the Cast” of the Wandle Piscators, and get involved in fishing, Riverfly monitoring, river restoration, and water quality testing experiences too.
